Santa Cataria enters a state of alert due to heavy rain

Heavy rains are expected to hit, this Tuesday (28), the metropolitan region of Florianópolis, Vale do Itajaí and south of Santa Catarina. The state’s Civil Defense issued a warning for a high risk of flooding and landslides.

Rain in the capital of Santa Catarina is expected to reach 165 mm in the next 24 hours – greater than the historical average for the month of November, which is 129 mm. The weather forecast indicates that the storms should gain strength in the early hours of the morning and last until Tuesday night (28).

The state government warns of a very high risk of landslides, flooding and floods in these regions. The dam gates in the Itajaí River Basin were closed to reduce possible flooding.

In Florianópolis, the city hall set up a situation room at the Civil Defense to monitor the rains and alert the population.

Storms can also cause damage to the electrical network, roofing and falling branches and trees.

Inmet issued an orange alert for all states in the south of the country for storms this Tuesday. The other areas of Brazil are expected to record occasional, low-intensity rains.
