Santos will be removed from the US Congress if he violated laws, says Republican

US Representative George Santos, who lied about much of his resume and life path, will be removed from Congress if he is found to have violated campaign finance laws, said fellow Republican and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Eat this Sunday.

“It is not for me or any other member of Congress to determine whether he can be expelled for lying. Now, if he broke campaign finance laws, he will be removed from Congress,” Comer told CNN’s “State of the Union” program.

Santos – the son of Brazilian parents – has repeatedly refused to step down, despite mounting pressure within his own party for him to do so.

Last Thursday, he said he would vacate his seat, which represents voters in the New York City region, only if he loses the next election.

Several members of the Republican Party, many of them from the same Santos district, which encompasses parts of Queens and Long Island, demanded the resignation of the newly elected congressman.

At least six of his fellow Republican congressmen in New York State joined those calls as well.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he would leave Santos’ fate in the hands of the Ethics Committee and voters.
