São Paulo begins distributing 234,000 pediatric vaccines against Covid-19

The Health Department of São Paulo began, this Friday (14), the distribution of 234 thousand doses of Pfizer vaccines received from the Ministry of Health to immunize children between 5 and 11 years. The goal is to vaccinate 850,000 children by February 10th.

The vaccines will be delivered to the 645 municipalities in the state and leave the Distribution and Logistics Center in São Paulo. The regions of the greater ABC, São João do Boa Vista, Campinas, the city of Osasco and the capital of São Paulo will receive the immunizers today. The date for the start of vaccination will be at the discretion of the prefectures. The city of São Paulo will start the campaign next Monday (17).

The Government of São Paulo expected to receive 258,000 vaccines, but the number was lower according to Health Secretary Jean Gorinchteyn, who confirmed the federal government’s estimate of shipments of 250,000 doses per week. He also stated that children should receive the immunizer, as they are possible vectors of the Ômicron variant.

In the first phase, children between the ages of 5 and 11 with comorbidities, indigenous people and quilombolas, will be vaccinated. Afterwards, the campaign will be extended to other ages. In all, São Paulo has more than 4.3 million children eligible for the Covid-19 vaccination campaign.
