São Paulo City Hall authorizes emergency hiring of doctors

The city hall of the capital of São Paulo authorized the emergency hiring of doctors, to make up for the lack of professionals who are on leave after contracting Covid-19. The information was given by the municipal secretary of Health, Edson Aparecido, to the anchor of the CNN Daniela Lima.

Medical teams in the city of São Paulo and across the country have a good part of their professionals on leave due to the high level of transmission of the Ômicron variant. Emergency contracts will be made by social organizations that provide services to municipal health and doctors can be hired as a legal entity.

This Thursday (13), the city hall should also announce an extension in the opening hours of some units of Ambulatory Medical Assistance (AMA), which will be available 24 hours a day. The Basic Health Units (UBS) should also work on Saturdays, in an attempt to avoid agglomeration of patients seeking care for Covid-19.

The city has mandated that a medical professional at each health facility must be available to respond to emergencies.

Secretary Edson Aparecido also said that, meeting a historic demand of the class, he will pay overtime to doctors who are working harder to make up for the absence of professionals away.

The secretary ruled out the risk of a strike by the medical profession, even with the possibility being raised by the union.
