The city of São Paulo published, on Thursday (4), an ordinance that establishes new rules for the holding of wakes in the city, ending the time limit and the number of people.
According to the text, signed by the superintendent of the Funeral Service of the City of São Paulo, Pedro Henrique Barbieri, the farewell ceremonies and funerals in the city are now carried out under the new rules in the case of deaths other than contagious diseases. Also valid for Covid-19 victims, but outside the 20-day contamination period.
In cases of deaths by Covid-19 within the period of transmission of the disease, the funerals are still suspended, the funeral must be held with a closed urn and without contact with the body.
Despite the new rules, the mandatory use of protective masks on the funeral service premises is maintained in all cases, as well as respect for the maximum capacity of the funeral parlors.
The new ordinance determines that other sanitary protocols are followed, such as placing the urn in an open or ventilated place, holding the ceremony in large spaces and providing water, liquid soap, paper towels, paper towels and 70% alcohol for sanitization of hands.
It is also recommended to avoid the presence of members of risk groups for Covid-19, such as people aged 60 years and over, pregnant women, nursing mothers, people with chronic diseases and immunocompromised.
The presence of people with respiratory symptoms, such as coughing, sneezing, runny nose, should also be avoided. Finally, the ordinance keeps the consumption of food and sharing of glasses prohibited.
The measures take effect immediately in the city of São Paulo.
