São Paulo has less than a quarter of the doses needed to vaccinate children aged 3 and 4 years

The city of São Paulo currently has around 150,000 doses of the Coronavac vaccine available for application to the entire population. This number corresponds to less than half of the total number of children aged 3 and 4 in the municipality, which is 314 thousand.

Considering that at least two doses are needed to complete the vaccination schedule, the stock for this age group would have to be at least 628,000 doses. The numbers were confirmed to CNN by the Municipal Health Department.

Last week, Coronavac was the first immunizer authorized by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) for application in children aged 3 and 4 years.

For the new stage of vaccination against Covid-19 in the city, which started this Wednesday (20), about 15,000 children between 3 and 4 years old with comorbidities, permanent disabilities (physical, sensory or intellectual), immunosuppression, in addition to indigenous people are eligible.

To complete the stock in several cities in the country, the governor of São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), also informed this Wednesday that the Butantan Institute will import Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (IFA) from China to start the resumption of vaccine production. Coronavac
