The municipal health secretary of São Paulo, Edson Aparecido, stated that the city has stock to apply the booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to approximately 800,000 people. The campaign starts this Thursday (18th).
“With what we had of doses from Pfizer, we were able to start vaccinating those who received the second dose until April 27th today, around 400 thousand people, and on Friday for those who took the second until June 17th, more 400,000 people,” said Aparecido, in an interview with CNN Radio.
He pointed out, however, that the calendar for next week has not yet been defined: “For the other bands, we have to wait for the Ministry of Health to send us a greater quantity of immunization agents.”
The city of São Paulo, according to the secretary, already has 98.5% of the population with the two doses and, for the reinforcement, there will be “scheduling and logistics.”
“In the capital, we practically vaccinated the entire adult population, and young people up to 12 years old should finish next week, we would only have the booster dose to apply”, he said.
Edson Aparecido stated that the Ministry of Health’s recommendation for the booster dose was a “positive surprise”: “The third dose, at a time when Asia and Europe are facing an increase in cases, is, without a doubt, very important for us.”
“Advancing in the booster dose will enable events and New Year’s parties in a safer way”, he added.
