São Paulo industry sensor drops to 48.4 points in September, says Fiesp

The São Paulo industry sensor retreated to 48.4 points in September, from 49.1 points in August — a level below 50 points, which indicates a retraction of activity in the month.

The information was released this Thursday (29) by the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp), in a survey carried out in partnership with the Center for Industries of the State of São Paulo (Ciesp).

The sales component presented 50.8 points, a level above 50 points, that is, which indicates an increase in sales in the month.

Inventories remain above expectations for the eighth consecutive month, with 45 points, while the employment indicator ended September at 48.5 points, indicating a perspective of reduction, as well as the investment indicator, at 48.3 points.

Conjuncture

According to the survey of the institutions’ conjuncture for the month of August, the real sales of the São Paulo industry fell by 1.1% compared to July, the first negative result after two months of growth — from 2.2% in June and 2, 0% in July.

The sectoral highlights of retraction in the month were chemicals (-13.4%), textiles (-10.5%) and food products (-8.0%).

The change in hours worked in production dropped by 0.2% and average wages dropped by 0.1%. The Installed Capacity Utilization Level (Nuci) of the state increased from 79.8% in July to 79.0% in August, in seasonally adjusted data.

In the 12-month period up to August, real sales (-7.8%) indicate a recovery trend, after reaching the peak of the valley in June (-9.6%). Average real wages accumulated a 1.3% retraction until August. Hours worked in production, on the other hand, remained accumulated at a high of 1.4%, as well as in July.
