The city of São Paulo can register heavy rain showers from early afternoon on Wednesday (12).
According to the Center for Management of Climatic Emergencies (CGE) of the City of São Paulo, the storms can generate points of flooding in the capital of São Paulo.
São Paulo dawned with overcast weather and an average temperature of 18ºC. The relative air humidity indices were around 90%.
“In the next few hours, the sun appears between clouds, favoring a little increase in temperatures. The maximum will be around 25°C, with percentages of air humidity around 50%”, informed the CGE.
The expectation for the next few days is that conditions will change in the Greater São Paulo region, with less cloudiness and higher temperatures – which favors occasional summer rains in the afternoons.
The return of the sun in Minas Gerais
According to Climatempo, Brazil should still register cloudiness and frequent rains this Wednesday (12).
For example, 17 capitals are at risk of registering heavy rains. They are Curitiba, São Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Goiânia, Brasília, Cuiabá, Teresina, São Luís, Natal, João Pessoa and Recife, Palmas, Belém, Macapá, Porto Velho and Rio Branco.
However, the weakening of the cloud band known as the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ) allows the sun to appear again in some regions. This is what will happen in parts of Minas Gerais.
The Jequitinhonha Valley region, for example, should have sun all day long. “Other regions of Minas Gerais will still have rain showers this Wednesday, but with the presence of the sun in a few hours”, points out Climatempo.
The central-west and southern regions of Minas Gerais, including cities in the Zona da Mata and Greater Belo Horizonte, may experience moderate to heavy rain showers.
The trend is that there will be more sunny periods on Thursday (13).
Heat wave gains strength in the South
Also according to Climatempo, an atmospheric blockade prevents the passage of cold fronts and favors the performance of a mass of dry and hot air in the southern region of Brazil.
Rio Grande do Sul should feel the greatest effects and potentially record temperature records in the coming days.
The temperature, this Tuesday (11), reached 38.3°C in the municipality of Quaraí, the highest in Brazil, according to the National Institute of Meteorology.
The strong heat wave added to the drought affects the entire central region of South America, with strong effects in Argentina.
The trend is for the phenomenon to cool down for the gauchos on Sunday, when the arrival of a cold front should cause intense storms.
