São Paulo recorded the highest rainfall for the month of January since 2017

The city of São Paulo recorded the highest rate of rainfall in a month of January since 2017. In the last month it rained a volume of 378.6 millimeters in the capital of São Paulo, according to preliminary data from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

Total rainfall in January was 31% higher than expected for the month. Last year, the index was 25% lower than normal for the same period.

For comparison, in January 2017 it rained a volume of 485.8 millimeters.

During the 24 hours between the mornings of the 29th and 30th, the highest volume of daily rain was recorded in the city. On the same weekend, several cities in São Paulo were seriously affected by the storms.

At least 24 people have died due to landslides since last Sunday (30) and about 660 families were left homeless (homeless, sheltered in public shelters) or displaced (not necessarily lost their homes and not gone to shelters).

Regarding maximum temperatures, the month of January ended with an average of 28.5ºC, slightly higher than expected (28.2ºC).
