The movement in São Paulo retail was 12.3% higher in January this year compared to the same month of 2021. In relation to December, however, there was a drop of 39.7% in the first month of 2022.
The information is from the Sales Balance indicator, prepared by the Gastão Vidigal Institute of Economics of the São Paulo Commercial Association (IEGV/ACSP) with a sample from Boa Vista S/A.
ACSP economist Marcel Solimeo assesses that the interannual advance was already expected.
“Last year there were still uncertainties because of Covid and trade was going through restrictions. This year, the scenario is already different”, says Solimeo.
Regarding the fall in relation to the previous month, the ACSP analyzes that, although expressive, it is not surprising.
“December is the main month for sales in the commerce and sales are boosted by Christmas gifts and the injection of the 13th salary paid to workers”, says the association, in a note.
