São Paulo will apply a fourth dose to elderly people over 60 from April 5

The governor of São Paulo, João Doria, announced this Sunday (27), that he will expand the vaccination of the fourth dose of Covid-19 for the elderly from 60 years of age from April 5 throughout the state.

The announcement was made at a vaccination post in Villa-Lobos Park, during the “Domingão da Vacinação” actions. The decision was a recommendation of the Scientific Committee of São Paulo.

According to the Coordinator of the State Immunization Plan, Regiane de Paula, this announcement is an important step to protect the population, especially the elderly over 60 years of age.

She also said that “São Paulo is the leader in vaccination in Brazil with more than 104 million doses applied and more than 90% of the population with two doses”, she said.

The state has already applied the fourth dose of the vaccine to elderly people over 80 since March 21.

According to the government, the decision to expand took into account the high mortality rate among the elderly in this age group during the circulation of the Ômicron variant.

About 4.5 million people will be able to take the fourth dose. For this, it is necessary that they have received the booster dose (third dose) with an interval of four months.
