The government of the state of São Paulo announced, this Wednesday (9), that the use of protective masks against Covid-19 in open environments will no longer be mandatory, as health sources had already advanced to the public. CNN.
The decision goes for the entire state from this Wednesday. The rule will not apply to closed spaces, as announced for the city of Rio de Janeiro this week. However, Governor João Doria (PSDB) stated that, until March 23, the indicators will be evaluated to possibly announce a complete release of the use of masks in all environments.
For now, there will still be no authorization for the removal of the item in schools and work offices, for example, said the governor of SP. Doria signed the decree without a mask in the garden of Palácio dos Bandeirantes.
With the new decree, they were also football games released with 100% of stadium capacitywithout the need for a mask, as well as the practice of all outdoor sports.
The general coordinator of the State Immunization Program, Regiane de Paula, stated that SP approaches the percentage of 90% of the eligible population – over 5 years of age – with the complete primary vaccination schedule, that is, at least two doses of any of the vaccines available.
The executive coordinator of the state scientific committee, João Gabbardo, said that “recommendations” are still valid to maintain the use of masks in certain situations or for certain profiles.
“People with flu-like symptoms should continue to wear a mask in any situation and place. People not vaccinated for any reason should continue to wear masks. Immunocompromised people and people with chronic diseases also have this recommendation, and finally, in open environments but with large agglomerations, there is a recommendation for people to protect themselves, especially those who are at greater risk,” said Gabbardo.

In an interview with CNN on Tuesday (8), the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), said that it is now possible to release the use of masks in open places in the capital of São Paulo.
The city hall delivered a study on the subject to the deputy governor of the state, Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB). The city’s health secretary, Edson Aparecido, confirms that he will follow the state’s recommendation.
So far, 7 capitals and the Federal District, including the city of São Paulo, have already waved to the release of the use of masks in an open or public place, but oblige them in a closed or private place.
