The organizers of St. Silvestre’s race, which will take place on December 31 in São Paulo, defined this Saturday (18th) the rules that the participants must comply with, including the sanitary ones. Runners will not need to use mask throughout the 15 km stretch of the race, it is mandatory to use it at the start, finish and concentration points.
Even with the release for the rest of the race, the regulation of the 96th edition of the event recommends that it be used “whenever possible at all times during the course for the safety of the participants”. Another recommendation is that runners bring a spare mask and personal hygiene products.
According to the regulation, the decision was taken taking into account the current scenario of the pandemic in the state of São Paulo, with the extension of quarantine decrees and some cities in the interior resuming lockdowns. The last edition, from 2020, was canceled due to pandemic.
It is further determined that, if the event has to be postponed due to issues related to the pandemic, the entries already made will be maintained, with the event being transferred to either July 10th or December 31st, 2022. On December 3rd , the Secretary of Health of São Paulo told the CNN that the event is held.
Athletes registered in the competition will need to present a printed version of the proof of vaccination for the Covid-19, with two doses or a single dose. If the vaccination schedule is incomplete, it will be necessary to present a negative test for Covid-19 of the RT-PCR type, valid for 48 hours, or an antigen test valid for 24 hours.
The regulation also includes the starting times for the participants. Wheelchair athletes without a guide start at 7:25 am, and those with a guide, at 8:05 am, the same time as athletes with disabilities. For elite athletes, the men’s squad starts at 8:05 am, and the women’s at 7:40 am. Athletes in the general and premium category start at 8:05 am.
To participate in the competition, you must first pick up a kit provided by the organizers, between December 27, 28 and 29 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, or on December 30, between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. The start will be at Paulista Avenue, at the time of number 2000, with the arrival also on the avenue, but at number 900. Check out the full regulation.
The São Silvestre Race has already become a tradition at the end of the year in São Paulo. In 2019, the last year the race took place, there were around 35,000 participants. The event is organized by the Cásper Líbero Foundation, with support from the government of the state of São Paulo and the city hall.
