Sardinian prosecutor’s office demands referral to Ciro Grillo for rape

The Porto Pausanias prosecutor’s office in Sardinia requested the prosecution of Ciro Grillo, son of the founder of the Five Star movement Bebe Grillo, on charges of rape.

The case concerns the complaint of an Italian-Norwegian woman that she was raped by Ciro Grillo and three of his friends, in July 2019, after a night they had spent together at a disco.

The first hearing was scheduled for 25 June.

Grillo’s son and three friends are accused of gang rape.

The young men claim that it was a sexual encounter that took place with the consent of the girl, but she herself testified to the prosecutors that she had been forced to drink alcohol and was not aware of what was happening.

Alongside, the four defendants took video with a mobile phone and sent it to other people, without the consent of the girl.

Last April, Bebe Grillo tried to defend his son, with a videotaped message on the internet in which, among other things, he said that a girl who was raped did not go surfing the next day and did not file a lawsuit eight days after the incident.

The vast majority of reactions on social media were negative, as Bebe Grillo’s intervention was considered sexist, deeply offensive and highly biased.
