Sartorial fashion and design: when two worlds meet

There are encounters capable of creating special synergies, and the one between Vitale Barberis Canonicothe historic Biella label of made in Italy for over 350 years, the designer Luca Nichetto and the tailor Antony Knight, are the examples.

The history of this family business and of the other two protagonists, after all, is based on a common passion for beauty, for craftsmanship, for design. And, to celebrate this love, a project was born, presented on the occasion of the Fuori Salone, capable of uniting these different but very similar worlds. We tell you here …

Is called BemyGuest and is a collection of design lamps made by Luca Nichetto, in an exclusive limited edition, for the historic company from Biella. Luminous objects with anthropomorphic figures built in resin and blown Murano glass, which take inspiration from the mannequins of the ateliers. And, just like in an atelier, they were presented to the public.

The path begins, in fact, in a sort of tailor-made workshop recreated ad hoc, where hundreds of patterns are hung, and ends in an English whiskey bar with a grand piano, one Steinway & Sons B-211 Spirio Black Masterpiece (No. 8 out of 20 produced worldwide) that magically plays jazz music on its own.

In this suggestive and surreal space, the anthropomorphic lamps by Luca Nichetto come to life, they are dressed in precious fabrics of Vitale Barberis Canonico and become characters imagined by the tailor’s inspiration Antony Knight. And it is he who presents them to us, on a journey capable of taking us through different worlds and personalities, told through the skilful use of clothes.

There is the journalist “full of bags because she is always around looking for new news to write” explains Antony, the business man with the inevitable shirt divided between an idealistic past and a calculating present, the opera singer protagonist on stage with the iconic boa (made by hand in fabric) and the influencer who «at first glance you don’t understand what you are wearing, because your wardrobe is always special: an anticipation of the trends that we will see in the following seasons». And then, again, the broad-shouldered politician, the teacher with her love for books (made of cotton and sewn onto the skirt), and the noble dandy, very elegant in his handmade waistcoat.

All the clothes of these characters who dress the lamps BemyGuest were conceived, but also created, by Antony who with his sensitivity, knowledge of fabrics, materials and cuts, but above all thanks to his artistic vision, gave life to a varied and fascinating human panorama, at times cynical and traits dreamer. After all, it is perhaps not fashion and clothes that cover our body (in this case the structure of the anthropomorphic lamps of Luca Nichetto) one of the most powerful means capable of telling who we are and our personality to the world?
