Satisfaction prevails in Paris over the actions of the French EU Presidency which is being completed today

Satisfaction, in general, prevails in Paris from the report of the French presidency of the EU, which is being completed today.

French diplomacy estimates that despite the fact that the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 changed the situation, Europe managed to face the new situation together, adopting six packages of sanctions against Russia, but also realizing the urgent need for assistance. cooperation of its Member States in matters of foreign policy and, above all, defense. The French side emphasizes that for the first time the creation of a European rapid reaction force was accepted, as well as the creation of a fund aimed at strengthening joint defense initiatives in Europe.

Another area of European policy in which progress has been made, albeit under the weight of the Ukrainian tragedy, is, according to French diplomacy, the issue of immigrant management and the guarding of European borders in general. The resulting refugee crisis in Ukraine has led Eastern European countries to realize that no single state can handle such large-scale problems, which, according to French diplomacy, allowed the creation of, on June 10, , the European Voluntary Solidarity Mechanism.

On the issue of climate change, which was one of the priorities of the French Presidency, the impression prevailing in Paris, as in most European capitals, is that, due to the energy crisis and in particular in view of the apparent lack of natural gas, steps have been taken backwards by resorting to coal.
