Saudi Arabia calls for “restraint” amid Iranian attacks on Israel

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry expressed concern about the “recent military escalations” in the region and their “potential serious repercussions” following Iranian drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel, according to a statement published by the Foreign Ministry on X this Saturday (13).

“The Ministry reaffirms the Kingdom’s position that underlines the need for the (UN) Security Council to assume responsibility for maintaining international peace and security, especially in this highly sensitive region for global peace and security,” the Saudi ministry added.

The Saudis stressed the importance of “preventing any worsening” of the crisis, warning of “terrible consequences” if the situation worsens.

Iran launched more than 200 drones and missiles against Israeli territory.

Iran's retaliation was already predicted by Israeli authorities, after the Islamic Republic accused Israel of carrying out an attack on the country's diplomatic representation in Syria last week, amid the intensification of tensions between the two countries in recent months.

“The malicious Zionist regime will be punished,” said Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a social media post this Saturday.
