The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is preparing for talks on the purchase of Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles Bayraktar, according to an international news website quoted by the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet.
“Saudi Arabia’s Military Industry (SAMI) has expressed interest in Turkish drones and is ready for talks with production company Baykar,” the Lebanese-based Tactical Report wrote on May 22nd.
The site is known for its news about information from Middle Eastern countries.
The allegation caught the attention of the local media, with the Milliyet newspaper republishing the news with the headline “another candidate for bayraktar”.
“The number of countries to which TB2 drones have been exported has reached 20,” the newspaper wrote on May 23rd.
The company has another unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the “Bayraktar Akıncı”. The first three units entered service in the Turkish Armed Forces on August 29, 2021.
According to local reports, Baykar, a company of interests of the Turkish president’s son-in-law Selcuk Bayraktar, has reached an agreement with three countries for the sale of “Bayraktar Akıncı”.
Turkish drones gained worldwide fame in the midst of the second Nagorno-Karabakh war that broke out on September 27, 2020, between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
