How are feelings told through images?

«Photography is a mix of emotions. Beyond the face, everything wants to express something: the colors, the lights, the contrasts, the position of the body, the choice of the setting. All these elements, both individually and as a whole, serve to express emotions. It is a real language: it speaks to people, communicates ideas and feelings ».

What were you inspired by for these photographs that were meant to express positive vibes?

«To the desire and need for escapism that we have in this historical moment, after a year and a half in which our life habits have radically changed and we have been forced to internalize new rules of socialization. Mask, distancing, lockdown: in this anomalous context it is precisely normality, true happiness, the true “think positive”. And I transferred this approach to the shots, I felt the urge for them to be happy images, in their simplicity and immediacy ».

How do you manage to enhance the diversity of people through photography?

«I have always enjoyed shooting particular subjects. Faces that perhaps have an aesthetic element that makes them unique such as the shape of the mouth, the divided teeth, the prominent ears. I have never considered them defects, far from it. They are distinctive signs that make that person unique and special and for this reason I love to enhance certain characteristics because they transform a “simple” photograph into an image that tells, excites, entertains, fascinates, captures ».

What does it mean for you to be a “Creator of Optimism»?

«I have made it a rule of life! The glass for me is always half full, life is full of obstacles, better to face it with a smile. I am a practitioner convinced of courtesy and kindness towards everyone: good morning, good evening thank you, please, how are you. The idea that my shots should first of all be a harbinger of joy made me really happy ».

There is something you do regularly to ensure that those around you and you get the right amount of daily happiness?

«Today, true happiness is having time: to be with the people you love and to do the things you love. This is why I always try to carve out moments that are only mine in which to cultivate my passions and at the same time I try to make sure that even those close to me can do the same. And then there is the coffee ritual: that my wife and I grow once each. In this small gesture, we remind ourselves that even in the frenzy of everyday life, we are there for each other, and it gives us happiness ».

What, or who, makes you happy?

“My family, my wife and my sun, or my six and a half year old son. And then … Juve too! Professionally, however, it makes me happy to work with those who have a relationship of mutual respect. And when I meet new people who love my photos, I get excited: it is a tribute and a recognition to my work that is always a pleasure ».

After this chat we are convinced: Emanuele is certainly a “Creator of Optimism“. And you? What do you do to make the people around you happy and smile?
