Sber showed robots for delivering goods in warehouses: they move on rails

Robots and robotic equipment are already actively used to perform heavy work within the warehouses of large companies – the same Amazon, for example, has created its own solution that can push carts in the right direction, which greatly simplifies the process of loading goods, sorting them and delivering them to the unloading point. However, as it turned out, not only American specialists worked in this direction – today, July 5, Sber engineers officially presented their latest development, which is also aimed at automating warehouse logistics in the field of e-commerce. This was reported by the information publication CNews with reference to the company’s employees.

Sber representatives also described in detail the process of automation of warehouse logistics, which is a special system with rack storage. Between the racks of the warehouse, shuttle robots move along the rails, which are responsible for transporting containers with the corresponding goods from the storage place, where the cargo is loaded into the robot, to the place of further storage at the picking station. But, surprisingly, this is not the most striking thing about the new automation system, because the SberPicke robot manipulator also participates in the process of cargo delivery.

This robot is located at the picking station and is equipped with an advanced automatic goods pickup system, which is based on computer vision. Accordingly, the robot is able to automatically select and shift the necessary goods for their further packaging and sending to the recipient. At the same time, the operator will control the entire process within the warehouse, performing his functions on the basis of the Robotic Management System. And if the project developers are to be believed, SberShuttle fully automates the work of the warehouse, while excluding a rather important aspect – errors directly related to the human factor.

A system based on automation and robots that can use computer vision to determine the product, sending it to packaging, will work much more accurately than a human operator and a forklift. Also, Sber specialists noted that the new automation system can significantly reduce operating costs, and the increase in the efficiency of work in comparison with manual selection of goods is fivefold.
