Representatives of Sberbank today, June 21, in their press center officially announced that by the end of this year, a million acquiring POS terminals throughout Russia will be able to pay for purchases using the SberPay payment by QR service. The company explained that at these terminals, in the process of paying for goods or services, a special QR code will be generated, thanks to which the user will be able to pay from his smartphone. Moreover, the company said that in 2023 Sber will equip its entire fleet of acquiring POS terminals in the country with the same technology.
The company’s specialists explained that this update of the terminals is necessary, since the residents of the country began to use the SberPay payment by QR function noticeably – it is actively used to pay for services and goods. Accordingly, the user just needs to take the smartphone out of his pocket, read the QR code using the camera of his device, and then make a one-click payment in the SberBank Online mobile application. It is worth noting that the function is available to both owners of Android devices and adherents of Apple technology, and bonuses under the SberThanks program are accrued in the same way as when paying with a card.
Sber representatives also spoke about the development of QR payment technology, when the client will generate a QR code in the SberBank Online application, and the cashier will simply scan this code at the checkout using a conventional scanner to pay for goods. Using this payment format, users will be able to make purchases in large retail chains – for example, a personal QR code for payment will be available in Azbuka Vkusa. This payment method is not only faster than the standard scanning of a QR code at the checkout, but is also absolutely safe – the personal QR code is updated every time, so that attackers will not be able to use it to make payments.
