Sberbank has created a system for recognizing animals: it will help to search for missing pets

Today, on September 8, the TASS news outlet, citing the press service of Sberbank, reported that the Sberbank developers have created the latest animal recognition system, which they plan to use, among other things, to search for missing pets. In order for the system to work, the company’s employees taught the neural network to capture certain features and features of animal faces, so that later, for example, by these characteristic features, they can distinguish similar dogs from each other. And right now, artificial intelligence using machine vision can distinguish different individuals of the same species with a high degree of accuracy.

“At the moment, the quality of comparison of two faces of pets is 94% for dogs and 84% for cats,” said Sberbank employees.

Moreover, Denis Kuzmin, Director of the Security Products and Services Division of Sberbank, said that this algorithm has already been integrated into the pet insurance program, and in the foreseeable future, if necessary, the technology will allow you to search for missing pets with greater efficiency. … And, as it turned out, Sberbank decided to recognize animal faces based on the CosFace algorithm, which was originally used to recognize human faces. The developers only modernized its functions, teaching in addition to people’s faces to recognize the characteristic features of the “face” of a pet.

An improved algorithm studies the facial structure of each animal, measuring, for example, the distance between the eyes of dogs or cats. Yes, and for Sberbank, this is not the first system for identifying pets – earlier the company planned to use the identification of animals by their nose print, which, in fact, can be compared with a human fingerprint. Unfortunately, this idea was abandoned – it is too difficult to collect data for training a neural network.
