Sberbank presented a prototype of a fully autonomous unmanned electric vehicle called Flip. Its development is carried out by the SberAutoTech team, and a key feature is the modular design of batteries that are easy to replace. Gas or hydrogen can also be used as fuel.
According to the vc.ru edition, the developers have created a platform driven by an electric motor, which in turn is powered by a replaceable battery module. This solution avoids the main problem of electric vehicles – fast discharge and long charging.
Sber’s drone looks unusual. It does not have a driver’s cab and vehicle control systems. This made it possible to make it symmetrical and increase its capacity by 40%. The dimensions of the car are 3.62 × 1.95 m and can accommodate six passengers. The company calls the Flip the fully autonomous and safe taxi of the future, although it can be used to transport a variety of goods. The car is equipped with lidars, radars and cameras, which together provide the fifth level of autonomy.
Flip will receive support from Sber’s services such as 2GIS, SberSvuk, Okko, Salyut, and will also recognize passengers by face. At the moment, the prototype of the car is undergoing internal tests in closed areas. The drone will be officially presented at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held from 2 to 5 June.
