The state of Santa Catarina issued, this Friday (16), a maximum alert for commercial poultry reinforces biosecurity measures after the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) detect the virus of high pathogenicity aviary influenza (IAAP) in a commercial poultry farm in Rio Grande do Sul. The focus is the first of IAAP detected in a commercial poultry system in Brazil.
According to the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAR) and the State Integrated Company of Agricultural Development (CIDASC), the situation requires maximum attention and, depending on the evolution of the epidemiological scenario, other measures to reinforce protection against the virus can be adopted.
The state stressed that birds dead or with clinical signs of the disease should not be manipulated. In addition, animal health defense actions will be intensified, which stand out:
- The analysis of the movement and products of animal origin from the focus region;
- The direction of active surveillance activity on properties that received animals from that region over the past 30 days and;
- The guidance to the Southern Agricultural Inspection Posts (PFFs) to intensify the documentary and physical inspection of all poultry loads and fertile eggs from Rio Grande do Sul.
In addition to intensifying the guidelines on the importance of biosecurity in the prevention of poultry disease during routine certifications, Cidasc’s veterinarians were told to maintain the assessment of suspected cases of respiratory and nerve syndrome of birds (SRN).
The producers were instructed to ban visits from people alien to the production system. According to Cidasc President Celles Regina de Matos, it is “important to warn the company in case of suspected sickness in birds or high mortality, as well as taking care of the biosecurity of its production. Water care, with feed, screens, shoes and clothing, do not have visits to enter the poultry.
