SC Police rescue dog kept in a 1m x 1m environment with a leaky water pot

The Civil Police of Santa Catarina arrested a man, on Wednesday (20), for the crime of aggravated mistreatment of a dog. The animal was kept in confinement in a closed cubicle measuring approximately 1m x 1m, in a store in the city of Palhoça.

The arrest was made following a complaint that a Boxer dog was locked up throughout the day on the premises of a commercial establishment.

The Animal Protection Division of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Capital (DPA/DIC) and the Palhoça Animal Welfare Directorate carried out an on-site check, confirming the unacceptable conditions in which the animal was found.

The cubicle was completely closed and unsanitary, with no light or openings for air to circulate. The dog also did not have access to adequate water or food. The container intended for hydration was completely punctured, meaning that it did not hold any water inside.

When removed from the area, the dog was very anxious and was panting, especially due to the high temperatures of the last few days.

According to the police, the animal “was rescued and is under the care of a faithful custodian, until the completion of the procedures for responsible adoption”.
