The American actress Scarlett Johansson 39, said in an interview with The New York Times that he holds no grudge against Disney after legal problems related to “Black Widow” (2021). She sued the company for releasing the film simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ streaming.
“I don’t hold a grudge. I think it was poor judgment and poor leadership at the time. It felt unprofessional to me, the whole ordeal. And honestly, I was extremely disappointed, especially because I had hope until, my team said, ‘You have to act,’” she explained.
In the lawsuit, Johansson alleged that putting “Black Widow” on Disney+ reduced her financial stake in the film because her salary was based largely on the film’s box office gross. Disney responded in July by saying there is “no merit to this lawsuit.”
At the time, Disney responded to the actress’s lawsuit by revealing her $20 million salary for the lead role in the plot and criticizing her “callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.” The studio added that the company “fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract.”
“Black Widow” grossed $379.7 million (around R$2 billion) worldwide. In October 2021, the actress and the company reached an agreement, however, the terms were not disclosed. In 2023, Johansson announced the end of her partnership with Marvel.
