“If there is a food security crisis in the world, it’s Putin’s fault,” Commission Vice President Margaritis Schoinas told Politico before leaving for his first mission to Washington and New York.
Food security is expected to be on the agenda of the discussion that Mr. Schoinas will have with the head of the UN, Antonio Guterres. As he put it, food security “is a major problem, but it can also be an opportunity for how we can deal with the chaos that war has brought. We have to start somewhere.”
In addition, the Vice President of the European Commission pointed out that the possibility of a new migration wave due to the impending food crisis could boost the agreement on the EU Migration Pact and added that EU countries could reach an agreement on the reforms of the asylum rules next year.
In addition to Mr. Guterres, Mr. Schoinas will have a meeting with the Minister of Internal Security, Alejandro Mallorca, and the Archbishop of America, Elpidoforos.
Regarding the meeting with Mr. Mallorca, Mr. Schoinas noted that “emphasis will be placed on security, cyber security and internal security”.
