Scholz: Canada and its LNG are Germany’s choice for weaning off Russian gas

Germany hopes that Canada’s liquefied natural gas will play a “pivotal role” in the country’s exit from the dominance of Russian gas imports, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Tuesday from Toronto, as part of his two-day visit to the North American country. .

“As Germany moves rapidly away from Russian energy sources, Canada is our choice as a partner,” the head of the German government told a German-Canadian conference. “For now, that means increasing LNG imports on our part. We think Canadian LNG will play a huge role in that process.”

Canada and Germany are two pieces that fit perfectly “into the global puzzle of our new, multipolar world,” the German chancellor continued.

“Your country has infinite potential to become a superpower in sustainable energy and sustainable resource production,” he concluded.
