“School fashion week”, when high school students choose the dress code

Monday vintage clothing, Tuesday pajamas, Wednesday sea theme, Thursday all dressed up The Big Bang Theory, Friday with something else instead of the backpack, Saturday “as bad as you can”. The dress code, in high school, is chosen by the pupils. It’s the latest trend in high school: it’s called “School fashion week” and was inspired by TikTok, where hundreds of videos are posted, shot in the classroom (especially in schools abroad) with the hashtag #schoolfashionweek.

The calendar is established in advance, then paraded through the corridors, the fashion shows are immortalized with photos and videos and the most suitable outfits are rewarded. And there are also some professors who are there, and adhere to the dress code of high school students (at the Volta di Torino a teacher was even awarded, who participated with commitment, adapting her clothing day by day, for the entire duration of fashion week).

A game that responds to the desire for light-heartedness, as explained by the professor of a Turin institute that adheres to the initiative. “After two years of Covid and over two months of unrest due to the outbreak of the war in Ukraine all of us we need a new lightness and joy to start hoping for a better tomorrow ”, is written on the school website. «Therefore, at the request of the school representatives of the students, the“ fashion week ”was granted», for the sole purpose «to bring us closer to fun even at school. A week, therefore, during which it can spread greater color and serenity in the faces of all the boys. The initiative was born from the need to experience school too, an important space of the day for all of us, with more brio and vivacity ».

The school fashion week does not disturb the lessons: “Students can come to school dressed according to the schedule, but it is not allowed to change clothes during school hours.” The professors also ask for respect for the “decorum that the school provides”. “Therefore the choice of the outfit must always take place in full respect of personal dignity, the school environment and one’s own sensitivity and that of others”. So far the kids have shown that they deserve the trust of their professors, who have played along. After all, they too want to shake off that sense of oppression of the last two years and go back to joking.
