School leaders against the reopening of the school: “Dad until January 24”

They are about one in four, or so two thousand out of a total of eight thousand. The school administrators are asking to postpone the reopening of the school and to opt for the Dad at least until January 24th. Despite the fact that a new protocol has just been approved with the aim of easing quarantines and guaranteeing as much as possible the lessons in the presence – and in safety – from Monday 10 January, the school principals have launched an urgent appeal to the Government, in light of the “unmanageable situation” (the increase in infections among children) and the “escalation of absences” among the staff.

«This is an epochal situation, never experienced before, risky and already predictable today. It is not possible to ignore it. A planned and provisional suspension of face-to-face lessons (with the activation of remote lessons) for two weeks is certainly preferable to an unmanageable situation that will certainly cause fragmentation, interruption of lessons and poor training effectiveness ”, is written in the appeal of the school managers.

“A few days after the start of classes after the Christmas break, during which we never stopped, we are witnessing with growing concern theabsence escalation. We have suspended staff because they are not up to date with mandatory vaccination and, every day, positive staff at Covid, who will not be able to provide service and will not be able to have, immediately, a replacement. We are talking about very high numbers, never seen before ».

Since the virus is transmitted by aerosol, “the classroom environment is a very favorable condition for contagion».

And again: «We realize that underestimating the foreseeable and enormous shortage of personnel will lead to insoluble problems. At a time when at least the minimum supervision of the classes is necessary (not to mention the teaching, which will in many cases be interrupted), we will not know, without staff, how to welcome and supervise children and young people. Equal concern weighs on the probable absences of Ata staff. We will find it impossible to open the small complexes and guarantee security and vigilance ».
