Bitcoin Beach community leader Roman Martínez said that there are extra-curricular programs for schoolchildren. According to Martinez, teaching bitcoin, money and economics at an early age will help many disadvantaged children manage their funds more wisely.
Bitcoin Beach is a movement aimed at popularizing Bitcoin, especially among those who do not have access to banking services. The organization is based in El Zonte, a small beach village about an hour from the nation’s capital, San Salvador. El Zonte was also one of the first localities in the country to accept bitcoin.
“Every Friday we tell schoolchildren about money and dreams, teach them how to create a Bitcoin wallet, help them get their first Satoshi and make transactions,” Martinez said.
He noted that children are interested in exploring these topics, even if at first many had the impression that bitcoin was too complicated. Bitcoin Beach considers it important that children learn bitcoin and money because it is not taught in schools. Bitcoin awareness, along with English language and computer skills, will help kids find the best job opportunities.
“We make deals every day, work for money, save money, but no one teaches us how to handle money. If you want to make a difference, students and their families need to learn about money. Bitcoin is the evolution of money,” Martinez continued.
In April, the El Salvadorian government announced its readiness to launch a new educational program at universities to train qualified Bitcoin and Lightning Network developers.
