Schwarzenegger ends divorce case after ten years of legal dispute

Completing one of the longest-running divorce proceedings in Hollywood history, Arnold Schwarzenegger made official, after ten years, its separation from Maria Shriver. The emotional break between the couple and the beginning of the litigation took place in mid-2011. Since then, the dispute in court has extended for more than a decade due to negotiations involving assets of US$ 400 million (approximately R$ 2 .2 billion at the current price).

According to information obtained by the TMZ portal, the divorce papers were finally signed and the process concluded this December. The agreement signed regarding the division of the fortune was not disclosed.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver were married in 1986 and had four children. In 2011, the actor’s ex-wife chose to end the relationship when Schwarzenegger, fresh out of the California governorship, revealed that he had a child out of wedlock, the result of a relationship with Mildred Baena, the family’s former housekeeper. At the time, Joseph Baena was ten years old. With the repercussion of the case, the star publicly positioned himself regretting the betrayal.

“After leaving the governor’s office, I told my wife about this event, which took place over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. I apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I sincerely regret it,” Schwarzenegger said in an official statement at the time.
