Science joins forces – The Hippocratic Oath by Pavia Medical School graduates

The journey of the Hippocratic spirit continues in universities around the world, uniting the forces of science under an “Oath”, the Hippocratic Oath. The World Hippocratic Institute Doctorswhich is the soul of this great route, under the auspices of the Medical Association of Athens, organized a special ceremony of re-enactment of the “authentic” oath of Hippocrates in the Fraschini Theater of the University of Pavia, one of the oldest academic institutions in the world .

Sixty-seven young doctorswho graduated from the Medical School of her University Pavia they received together with their degree the papyrus with the oath of the father of Medicine in ancient Greek after the ceremony of taking the original Hippocratic Oath. Special envoy from Kos, who participates in the official ceremonies of Asklepiion, represented Hippocrates at the Pavia ceremonywhile eight young Italian women dressed up as priestesses in robes for the authentic revival of the Hippocratic Oath.

This special evening was attended by members of the academic and scientific community of Pavia, the honorary consul of Milan Mr. Sakkaris, the president of the Greek community in Pavia Giorgos Bakayas and members of the Greek community.

The president of the Medical Association of Pavia Claudio Lisi said excited about the whole venture. In fact, the president of ISA and the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians, regional governor of Attica George Patoulisinvited the president of the Medical Association of Pavia Claudio Lisi and its dean Medical school of the University of Pavia Marco Benazzo for the swearing in of the Distinguished Doctors at the Asklepiion of Kos on October 22.

The institution of reviving the original Hippocratic Oath is one of the main goals of the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians and concerns the swearing in of medical graduates of the world’s universities, as well as medical associations internationally, at the Asclepius of Kos, in the context of highlighting the universality of Hippocrates medical science and medical thought, reports the Athens News Agency.

After the event, the unveiling of the bust of Hippocrates by the president of ISA and the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians, Dr. George Patoulis, the president of the Medical Association of Pavia, Dr. Claudio Lisi, the Dean of the Medical School of the University of Pavia, Professor Marco Benatso, and the representative of the International Hippocratic Foundation of Kos, general secretary of the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians and ambassador of Greek Tourism, Dr. Antonio Polydorou. The symbolic tree planting was also done and the Hippocrates plane tree was placed in the Botanical Garden of Pavia, as is done in medical schools with which the World Hippocratic Institute is connected, as an indication of the transmission of the knowledge of the father of Western Medicine.

The president of ISA and the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians, dr. George Patoulis during his speech he emphasized that “the Oath of Hippocrates continues to be the most perfect and complete code of practice medical sciencewhich highlights empathy, ethics and love for humans, along with lifelong education and refinement of knowledge and her medical practice». For his part, the First Vice-President of the World Institute of Greek Doctors, Konstantinos Pantos, stated that the initiative to place busts opens new avenues and collaborations with doctors and institutions abroad and lays the foundations for the promotion of Hippocratic thinking and medical tourism.
