Scientists have studied strands of Ludwig van Beethoven's hair used in earlier DNA analysis to determine whether the supreme musical genius had an inherited gift for music. The website popularmechanics.com reports that the research was carried out by the Max Planck Institutes for Aesthetic Empiricism in Germany and the Institute for Psycholinguistics (MPI-PL) in the Netherlands, as well as the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The aim was to find out if there was a hereditary talent, as it has been found that through DNA there is a 42% chance of being musically inclined if one or both parents are involved. In the case of Beethoven this was not found, with scientists considering that he became a musical genius on his own and not because he had any hereditary predisposition.
