Scientists reveal that hair straightening chemicals increase the risk of uterine cancer

Historically speaking, the cosmetics industry has been overshadowed by capitalism (like practically any industry), so many times, the products that come onto the market are not at all necessary in the lives of women and do not comply with the protocols of safety they promise, resulting in serious health problems.

For this reason, it is common for important scientific journals to thoroughly investigate all kinds of products, as the Journal of the National Cancer Institutewhich brought to light worrying news for women who frequently use hair straighteners (exactly more than four times a year).

The main person in charge of the investigation is Alexandra White, who has spread the worrying increase in the probability of developing uterine cancer among women who use hair straightening products and those who do not.

1.64 percent of women who have never used a hair straightening product will have developed uterine cancer by age 70, but for frequent users, this risk rises to 4.05 percent.

To access this information, the magazine followed approximately 33,500 American women for almost 11 years, giving the possibility of making the corresponding comparison between the participants. Unfortunately, the research work did not reveal the brands or ingredients that were used throughout this time.

Even so, they emphasized the popularity of Brazilian straightening between 2003 and 2009, so the conclusions point to paraben chemicals, such as bisphenol A, metals and formaldehyde, which are absorbed through the scalp.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the women who are most at risk of suffering from this type of cancer are women of African descent, since, according to the study, in the United States it is more common for them to access this type of product. In addition, the research included 60 percent African-American participants.

We know that women of African descent tend to use multiple products simultaneously, which may contribute to their having higher concentrations of these hormone-disrupting chemicals in their bodies on average.
