Scoop on Nefflix, the Prince Andrew scandal and the role of Beatrice of York: the royal family is shaking again

New worries on the horizon for the British royal family: the fault, even if this time indirectly, of Prince Andrew, which is finished back in the spotlight because of Scoop, Netflix docufilm on the sex scandal that involved him.

The documentary film on Andrea di York's interview with the BBC will debut on April 5 on Netflix.

At the center of the production is the now famous interview that the prince gave to the BBC in 2019 and in which he admitted knowing Jeffrey Epstein, convicted of sexual trafficking of minors and abuse. As the Duke of York, Rufus Sewell revives that disastrous conversation for the prince, which in a few days would have led him to renounce his institutional duties, overwhelmed by a scandal for which he is still paying the consequences, while playing the interviewer Emily Maitlis there is Gillian Anderson.

Inside the scandals and secrets of Prince Andrew
Scoopavailable from 5 April on Netflix, will tell all the behind the scenes of the infamous BBC interview in which the brother of King Charles III, in a (clumsy) attempt to get out of the Epstein scandal, instead managed to bury his own reputation

The Palace, obviously, was not pleased with this, but above all it is not going down well with Princess Beatrice, the eldest daughter of Andrea and Sarah Ferguson. It was she who pushed her father to speak to the BBC, obviously without being able to foresee the consequences, and now the royal experts are convinced that it will be Beatrice who will be most affected by the broadcast.

«For Andrea it is really very bad news and, in fact, it is for his entire family», he said to Okay! Jennie Bond, BBC royal correspondent for 14 years, “Particularly, Beatrice will be annoyed and upset that her role in organizing and monitoring the interview will now be made much more public.”

It was known that the princess had been involved, but only in 2023 did producer Sam McAlister reveal the extent to which Beatrice was involved. In fact, her father he took her with him to a preliminary meeting with the production to define the terms of the conversation that was then broadcast. “I felt she was close to the Queen,” McAlister said. “I felt she was the person who could make the difference between us getting the interview or not.” Beatrice, who is played by Charity Wakefield in Scoop, was there, taking notes and looking very “anxious”, as reported by the production. It is obvious that the prince's eldest daughter is worried about this broadcast: of all the members of the royal family she is undoubtedly the most reserved. Very few public outings and no social sharing of her private life, even though it has often been talked about in recent weeks a possible upgrade of their roles: the royal family is in difficulty due to the forced absences of Charles III and Kate Middleton, help from the princesses could be useful.

Hypothesis, for the moment, what is certain is that no comments on Scoop will come from Palazzo, at least directly. On Thursday 4 April, Prince Andrew was spotted driving his car in Windsor, and appeared to be in excellent spirits, just as he was on Easter Sunday, when he joined the rest of the family for the traditional mass. No one has forgotten his mistakes, but perhaps gradually he could return to hold some position.
