THE renowned Hollywood filmmaker Martin Scorsese 82, will produce a New documentary that will present the last video interview of the late Pope Francis (1936-2025).
The film, entitled “Aldeas – A New History”, is also produced by Aldeas Scholas Films, the film production arm of the non -profit international organization Scholas Occurrent of Pope Francis, founded in 2013 and focused on world youth.
The documentary, on a film program also called Aldeas, will follow the production of various short films that address Pope Francis’ passion for the construction of communities and his emphasis on creativity as “not just a means of expression, but a way to hope and transformation,” a press release said.
“Through practical workshops, communities around the world will create scripted short films that celebrate their unique identities, stories and values,” the statement added. “The behind -the -scenes stories of these shorts will be intertwined with unpublished conversations between Pope Francis and Scorsese.”
Before his death earlier this month, at the age of 88, Francisco spoke about the film and the program, saying, “‘Aldeas’ is an extremely poetic and very constructive project because it goes to the roots of human life, human sociability, human conflicts … the essence of a journey of life.”
Scorsese added in the statement: “Now, more than ever, we need to talk to each other, listen to interculturally. One of the best ways to do this is sharing the stories of who we are, reflected in our lives and personal experiences.”
The Oscar winner continued to say that it was “important” to Pope Francis that people around the world “change ideas with respect while preserving their cultural identity, and cinema is the best way to it.”
Aldeas Scholas Films was “inspired by the belief that“ it takes an entire village to educate a child ”” and works to make some of the “deeper appeals” of Francisco’s “deeper appeals”, particularly the need to reach the peripheries and build unity at a time of division, said the statement.
Indonesia, Gambia and Italy are among the countries that will participate in the project, and the short films produced in these places will eventually debut in newly established local theaters, “serving as lasting centers for cultural expression and education.”
Tens of thousands of people, including dozens of dignitaries, went to the Vatican on Saturday to Pope Francis’ funeral. Earlier this week, the CNN He reported that the cardinals chose May 7 as the date to start the conclave and elect a new leader to 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide, according to the Vatican.
