AUO has introduced a display on a panel that relies on a very rare technology. We are talking about ChLCD – cholesteric liquid crystals.

Like the well-known E Ink technology, ChLCD is distinguished by the fact that displays based on this technology do not consume energy for static display of information. Energy is spent only on changing the image. Thus, the display consumes very little power. The technology has been around for more than a decade, but it has not gained popularity among consumer electronics.
The ChLCD display that AUO showed is in color. But, unlike color E Ink, there is no color filter used, so the screen resolution is not lost when viewing color content.
Now AUO believes that demand may increase. Including for devices that will be used for educational purposes, as well as in the transport sector.
About the screen itself, it is known that it is characterized by a diagonal of 7.9 inches. The permission remains unknown.
