The film “Silvio “, which opens in theaters on September 12, promises to reveal never-before-seen details about the life of the iconic presenter and businessman Silvio Santos .
In an interview with CNN screenwriter Newton Cannito shared information about the production, which portrays one of the most dramatic moments in the communicator’s life.
According to Cannito, the feature film focuses on the day that Silvio Santos became hostage to the man who kidnapped his daughter Patricia Abravanel, in 2001. But the narrative goes beyond this event, using it as a starting point to explore the presenter’s trajectory.
“From the day of the kidnapping, he, Silvio Santos, to avoid his own death, begins to tell his life story”, observes the screenwriter.
From street vendor to communications empire
The film will cover crucial moments in Silvio Santos’ career, from his first steps as a street vendor to the creation of SBT and the consolidation of his empire in Brazilian media. Cannito emphasizes that the production seeks to show not only the presenter known to the public, but also the businessman Senor Abravanel.
“Silvio Santos, as you all know, is the greatest presenter in the history of Brazilian TV, by far, but Senor Abravanel, who was the one who actually passed away, we know much less about,” says the scriptwriter, highlighting the complexity of the figure portrayed.
One of the central aspects of the film, according to Cannito, is the exploration of Silvio Santos’ values and legacy. “It’s a film about fatherhood, it’s a film about values, so it’s a film about Silvio Santos’ legacy,” describes the screenwriter.
The production will also address the presenter’s relationship with his family and the transition of his empire to his daughters.
The screenwriter also emphasizes Silvio Santos’ ability to deal with people, highlighting his role as a “mentor” and “talent scout”.
“He’s a kind of circus owner. He really created a circus, his TV is a circus,” says Cannito, highlighting the presenter’s ability to reveal and nurture new talents in the artistic world.
With its premiere scheduled for September 12, “Silvio” promises to offer viewers an intimate and revealing look at one of the greatest icons of Brazilian television, mixing moments of action, emotion and reflection on the life and career of Silvio Santos.
