Sean Penn walked to the Polish border to leave Ukraine

Sean Penn says that he and his colleagues abandoned their car on the way out of Ukraine. The actor, activist and director was reportedly in the country working on a documentary when Russian forces invaded.

Penn recently tweeted a photo where he appeared to be walking down a road with his luggage amid a long line of cars.

“Me and two colleagues walked miles to the Polish border after abandoning our car on the side of the road,” the tweet read. “Almost all the cars in this photo carry only women and children, most with no sign of luggage, and a car is their only asset of value.”

Penn had previously tweeted: “It was once a brutal mistake of lives taken and hearts broken, and if he doesn’t relent, I believe Putin has made a horrible mistake for all of humanity.”

“President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people stood up as historic symbols of courage and principle,” he wrote. “Ukraine is the spearhead for the democratic embrace of dreams. If we allow her to fight alone, our soul as America is lost.”

A representative for Penn confirmed to CNN that he was able to leave Ukraine, but declined to provide more information.
