Search teams for duo in Amazonas arrest a suspect

The Federal Police (PF) of Amazonas gave details about the investigations into the disappearance of the indigenist Bruno Araújo Pereira and the English journalist Dom Phillips, correspondent of the newspaper “The Guardian”, in a press conference this Wednesday afternoon (8).

Search teams have arrested a first suspect.

“Since the first day, we have already made incursions with the vessels of the security agencies present here. On the second day, we already got aircraft support. So we have helicopters there, they are flying over the area”, said the regional superintendent of the Federal Police of Amazonas, Eduardo Alexandre Fontes.

The delegate confirmed that it is a dangerous region, especially due to issues involving drug trafficking, illegal logging and mining.

According to him, there are 250 men involved in the operation, two aircraft, three drones, 16 vessels and 20 vehicles.

New information should be released daily, starting this Thursday (9), at 16 pm.

In addition to the superintendent, authorities from the Army, Navy, Federal Police, Civil Police, Fire Department and the Public Security Department were present, who are part of the crisis office installed for the operation.

The Secretary of Public Security, General Mansur, reported that the suspect who is in custody was carrying strange ordnance. So far, however, there is no confirmation of his involvement with the case.

Without giving details, the general informed that the agents have seized material for investigation. For now, he said, the forces are focused on locating the missing. “There are no strong indications of crime,” he pointed out.
