Searches were carried out at Nvidia’s French office

French authorities raided Nvidia’s local office as part of an antitrust investigation into the cloud computing sector. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Neither law enforcement agencies nor representatives of the chipmaker commented on the incident.

The publication reported the raid on September 28. The day before, the French antitrust regulator Autorité de la Concurrence released press release, according to which investigative services “conducted searches at the premises of a company suspected of anti-competitive practices in the video card sector.”

“Such surprise raids do not imply the existence of a violation of the law that could be charged to the company,” the Autorité de la Concurrence clarified.

They added that they would not comment on the name of the organization.

Previously regulator released research into the cloud computing sector. The document does not mention Nvidia; the specialists’ attention was focused on Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.

“In 2021, Amazon and Microsoft accounted for 46% and 17% of revenue from IaaS and PaaS services, respectively. Given their financial strengths and digital ecosystems, these hyperscalers may hinder competition,” the report’s authors noted.

According to the document, the Autorité de la Concurrence has tools to combat unfair competition and abuses of the law.

At the end of the second quarter of the 2024 financial year, Nvidia showed record profits. The company’s CEO, Jensen Huang, explained the performance by a sharp transition to the implementation of AI.

The chipmaker’s report for the first quarter of the 2024 financial year provoked an increase in quotes for cryptocurrencies associated with artificial intelligence.
