SEC Crypto Assets Head Steps Down

David Hirsh, formerly head of the cryptocurrency oversight department of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has left the organization. He reported this to social network LinkedIn.

“Friday was my last day working in the SEC. “I am especially proud of the work done by the Crypto Assets and Cybersecurity team that I have had the pleasure of leading,” Hirsch wrote.

In his post, the now former SEC official called securities trading a “team sport.” He thanked his colleagues for the years of cooperation and joint efforts aimed at achieving a common goal.

Note that David Hirsch worked in the SEC for about nine years. He joined the organization as an in-house lawyer, but subsequently headed the department dealing with crypto exchanges and decentralized finance (DeFi) projects.

The top manager did not specify the details of further employment. However, he wrote that he was going to take a break and travel with his family.

In comments to the publication, CBDA President Don Friedman called Hirsch one of the most scrupulous specialists on Wall Street. Other colleagues noted the former SEC employee’s honesty and integrity in working with digital assets.

In April 2024, two lawyers resigned from the Commission. True, then their resignation was associated with the SEC fiasco in the case against Debt Box.
