The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as part of a lawsuit against Ripple for an unregistered sale of securities, requested the correspondence of the company’s employees in the Slack messenger.
The petition is filed with Judge for the Southern District of New York, Sarah Netbrun. According to representatives of the regulator, Slack messages may contain critical information. At the same time, according to the SEC, Ripple refused to voluntarily provide the history of messages.
“In the beginning, Ripple agreed to provide data from the Slack messenger. But recently, against the background of revealed facts of violations, she suddenly refused to do this, referring to errors in obtaining data, ”the petition says.
Earlier, Ripple transmitted 1,468 messages from the Slack messenger to representatives of the regulator. Despite the small number of reports, the SEC commissioners found “extremely important information.” And, if Ripple did not prevent it from gaining access to the messages, then the SEC could update and confirm the testimony of witnesses.
According to the regulator, Ripple employees wrote over a million messages in the Slack messenger and exchanged “terabytes of information”.
Recall that in December last year, the SEC filed a lawsuit against Ripple on charges of selling unregistered securities in the amount of $ 1.3 billion.
