Second case of monkeypox confirmed in Brazil

The second case of monkeypox was confirmed in Brazil in São Paulo. This is a 29-year-old man who is isolated at his home in Vinhedo, in the interior of the state. The information was confirmed by the State Department of Health.

According to the note, the case is considered imported, as the patient has a history of traveling to Portugal and Spain and had the symptoms and the first rashes on the skin while still in Europe.

The man had landed in Brazil on June 8, but confirmation was made this Saturday (11). The Epidemiological Surveillance of the municipality, in partnership with the State, informs that it is monitoring the case and their respective contacts.

Earlier, São Paulo State Health Secretary Jean Gorinchteyn said in an interview with CNN that most cases of the disease develop in mild cases.

“In most cases, the disease tends to be very mild. So much so that we have 29 countries with a diagnosis of monkeypox, and of the nearly 900 people, they are all clinically well,” he said.

The first case of Monkeypox was confirmed on Thursday (9) in the capital of São Paulo. The patient is a 41-year-old man who is hospitalized at the Instituto de Infectologia Emílio Ribas with a good evolution of the clinical picture.

In addition to the two confirmations, the State Epidemiological Surveillance Center (CVE) and the city of São Paulo have also been investigating since last week another patient, a 26-year-old woman, also a resident of the Capital.
