Second wave of coronavirus epidemic in India hits smartphone sales sharply

At the end of April, India became the world leader in the number of coronavirus cases per day, the situation in the country is very difficult, and it has affected a variety of industries, including the smartphone market.

At the moment, the leaders in the Indian smartphone market are Xiaomi, Oppo, Samsung and Vivo, which occupy 25, 23, 22 and 16% of the market, respectively. Four Chinese companies account for 86% of the Indian smartphone market.

The current situation in India is reported to have resulted in a significant decline in smartphone sales. According to the forecast, Xiaomi will not sell 240 million smartphones in a year, as originally planned, but 190 million units. Independent company Honor will ship 35 million in a year instead of the previously planned 50 million smartphones.

Shipments of Oppo, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus and other well-known companies will also be significantly reduced – by about 20% on average.
