Secret passageway discovered behind the main entrance of the Great Pyramid of Giza

Archaeologists discovered a nine-meter secret passage behind the main entrance of Megali Pyramid of Giza hoping that this discovery will pave the way for new ones.

The discovery was made as part of the Scan Pyramids program that has been in place since 2015 and uses modern technology, electronic scanners and endoscopes, to explore the interior of the Pyramid, the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World to survive.

The unfinished corridor was likely built to ease the pyramid’s weight either on the two wings of its main entrance, which lies seven meters below, or on a yet-to-be-discovered secret chamber, said Mostafa Waziri, head of the Pyramid’s Supreme Council of Antiquities. Egyptas reported by Reuters and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

The Great Pyramid was built as a burial monument around 2560 BC. during the reign of Cheops.

It is 146 meters high and was the tallest monument of mankind until the construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1889.
