Rio de Janeiro's Security Secretary, Victor Santos, asked Governor Cláudio Castro (PL) this Thursday (11) to change command of the state's Military Police.
The request was made through a letter sent to the governor. Without justifying the reason for the change, Santos recommended that the new head of the Military Police be Colonel Ranulfo Souza Brandão Filho Santos.
According to the corporation's website, Brandão Filho is currently assigned to the Special Operations Command (COE), which is responsible for five units: the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE), Shock (BPChq), Dog Actions (BAC) , Aeromobile Group (GAM) and the Center for Specialized Instruction and Police Research (CIEsPP).
Castro has not yet responded officially. For Marinho Pires' dismissal and change of command to take place, publication in the Official Gazette is necessary, which did not occur until early this Thursday afternoon.
When contacted, the State government has not yet responded.
Colonel Luiz Henrique Marinho Pires has been with the PM for more than 30 years and has held the position of secretary of the corporation since August 2021. Before that, he was Chief of the General Staff (EMG), commander of the 1st Area Policing Command (CPA) and Battalions.
Marinho Pires was also the responsible for operational security planning for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016 and for the Pan American Games in the capital of Rio de Janeiro in 2007.
A CNN also awaiting positioning from the PM.
