Security Council meeting will be this Wednesday morning (18)

Itamaraty reported that the United Nations (UN) Security Council meeting was rescheduled for 10 am in New York (11 am Brasília time), on Wednesday (18). The meeting was scheduled for Tuesday night (17) and was postponed.

Officially, Itamaraty states that the council delegations pass on the information to the capitals, which opens the door for negotiations.

Government sources informed the news anchor CNN Tainá Falcão and the analyst at CNN Jussara Soares that the transfer of the meeting is not related to the attack on a hospital in Gaza, but was done to have more time to discuss the text that will be voted on, which is also the reason for diplomatic consultations between the authorities.

The content of Brazil’s resolution should also not be changed. The text formulated by the Brazilian government calls for the “immediate withdrawal of the order”, given by Israel, for Palestinian civilians and United Nations employees to evacuate the north of the Gaza Strip and relocate to the southern region of the territory. The proposal also calls for the creation of humanitarian corridors.

The resolution drawn up by Brazil mentions Hamas by name. The text “unequivocally rejects and condemns Hamas’ heinous terrorist attacks” and “calls for the immediate and unconditional release of civilian hostages.”
